About the Eden Epsom Archive

Preserving more than 135 years of club history

For more than 135 years, Eden Epsom Tennis & Squash Club has been part of the sporting and social life of its community in Auckland. From its beginnings as a local tennis club in the late nineteenth century, the club has grown and changed through generations of members, while retaining the sense of community that has always been at its heart.

The Eden Epsom Archive has been created to preserve that history and make it accessible to club members, former members, families, researchers and anyone with an interest in the story of the club.

About the Archive

The archive brings together historical material from across the life of Eden Epsom Tennis & Squash Club in one searchable online collection.

It includes photographs, annual reports and other publications, records of presidents and life members, and material documenting both tennis and squash at the club.

Rather than simply storing these records away, the archive is intended to make them easy to explore. Visitors can browse individual collections or use the archive search to find people, dates, events and other information across the collection.

Exploring the Collection

The archive is organised into several main areas.

  • People records those who have helped shape the club, including its presidents and life members.
  • Publications preserves annual reports, books and other published material connected with the club.
  • Photos brings together historical photographs from tennis, squash and the wider life of Eden Epsom.
  • The Archive Search provides another way to explore the collection, particularly when looking for a particular person, year or subject.

A Living Archive

This is not intended to be a finished record of Eden Epsom’s history.

The archive can continue to grow as additional photographs, documents, publications and information are identified and added. In this way, material that might otherwise remain in cupboards, boxes or private collections can become part of a lasting historical record.

We also recognise that historical records are not always complete. Names, dates and other details may sometimes be missing or require correction.

If you can identify a person in a photograph, provide further information about an item, correct an error, or have historical material relating to Eden Epsom that may belong in the archive, we would be pleased to hear from you.

Can you help us add to the story?

Do you have old Eden Epsom photographs, programmes, reports or other club material? Or can you identify people, dates or events in something already in the Archive? We welcome information that can help make the Archive more complete and accurate.
